At DPT we specialize in treatment of the pelvic floor for persons of any gender. Every one of our therapists is a pelvic floor specialist.

Pelvic Pain

We treat patients of any gender for bowel disorders, sexual dysfunction, bladder pain, and many related pelvic issues. Treatments may include manual therapy (both internal and external), exercise and other modalities. You will always be treated in a private room, one-on-one with an experienced pelvic floor therapist.

Prolapse

“Prolapse” refers to the dropping or descending of organs; pelvic organ prolapse (POP) happens when the muscles and tissues of the pelvic floor become weak or loose, allowing one or more of the pelvic organs (the uterus, bladder, or rectum) to drop into or out of the vagina. Common symptoms include a feeling of pressure or heaviness in the vagina. POP is very common for women throughout their lifespan, but this doesn’t mean that it is normal or that there is nothing you can do about it. We can help correct POP by teaching you pressure management techniques and exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor.

Prostatitis

Pelvic pain in men can be from an inflammation in the prostate and pelvic floor muscle dysfunction. This can cause pain in the pelvis and genitals. Working specifically to retrain these muscles alleviates pain and restores sexual function. We utilize a variety of techniques to address these issues including manual therapy, stretching and biofeedback.

Incontinence

Urinary leaking is never normal! PT is effective at treating the uncomfortable problem of urinary or fecal incontinence. If you do not want surgery or to wear diapers and pads or to take medication, then try PT. We teach you how to gain control and it is so much more than just doing Kegels. Do not suffer from this problem when we can teach you effective techniques to get rid of this problem. Whether you leak when you laugh or sneeze, or you just can't get to the bathroom on time, we can help.

Bowel Disorders

We have all been there and know that dealing with constipation or other symptoms of gastrointestinal distress is not fun. Fortunately, increasing your overall mobility has been proven to help with constipation - and that combined with some education and specific Physical Therapy techniques (stretches, colon massage, diaphragmatic breathing/relaxation) can work wonders on your gut health!

Pregnancy

While several things are out of your control during pregnancy, pain does not have to be one of them! Our therapists’ additional training and experience with Pelvic Floor/Women’s Health conditions provides extra insight when treating pregnant patients. We can help address conditions such as back pain, diastasis recti (separating of the abdominal muscles postpartum), pubic symphysis/pelvic pain, among many others. Or, if you’re just wondering how you can safely and appropriately remain strong/active throughout your pregnancy, we are your guides!

I am very pleased with the quality of care I receive at Diversified Physical Therapy, and I am always happy to recommend it to others. - CR Meriden
